Fabric and Sewing Pants
Your fabric is probably the most important ingredient for your pants project.
There is so many choices when you visit the Bottom Weights section in your fabric store but which one will you choose? I have looked at each pants pattern (thanks to the internet this was easy to do) from all the different companies and there are only a few names that come-up every time I looked at the suggested fabric section.
But here is the ones you could choose with confidence if you are sewing up your pants:
Gabardine
Wool Crepe
Poplin
Wool
Wool Blends
Medium- weight Linen
Linen Blends
In the following video you will see the difference in sewing with a firm fabric and a soft drapery wool blend fabric.
I do have a free tissue fitting video available for you to watch here.

I know that the fuller the pant the drapier the fabric has to be, but I also realized that jeans have to fit fairly tightly to not have the wrinkles you showed in your video. I fit a Burda pattern for jeans and the muslin looked great, but when I sewed it up in denim more wrinkles showed up between the butt and my knees. Your post over on PR made think about the fit and I realized that it wasn’t enough to just take out a horizontal tuck, but I need to take a vertical dart and then remove that extra from my pattern. The Jalie jeans pattern that is so hot right now has a negative ease, hence the requirement to use at least 4% stretch, and that takes care of the lack of drape in denim. Thanks for the thought provoking post.
