New Sew-along starting

You see this style every where. In dresses as well as in tops. It is the WRAP. There are different variations of a wrap top and or wrap dress. This is one style that will fit most body types.

Diane von Furstenberg (DvF) introduced the wrap dress as a high fashion item in 1972, and it has come to stay.

We will be sewing a wrap top/dress in our next sew-along. You will have step-by-step video tutorials on how to alter the different styles to fit you. To sign-up for the sew-along simply visit the forum and become an Elite Member. Please click here I

Full Bust Adjustment With No Bust Dart

I’m sure we all have a top, blouse or dress which don’t have a bust dart. The question is how do you add to the bust without adding a bust or shoulder dart? For this demonstration I have used New Look N6598.

It is quick and easy to do a full bust adjustment on a top with no bust dart. The main thing to remember is that this adjustment could not be bigger than 3/4″ which will give you a 1&1/2″ full bust adjustment.

1. Prepare the pattern for the adjustment:
In this video you will see step-by-step where to draw your adjustment lines.

M5433 – A new addition to my closet

For this blouse I have made my usual adjustments for the back which include a broad back, high round and a sway back.

FYI: This pattern do not have any ease in the back so it is a good idea to add about 1/2″ in total if you do not do a broad back usually.

This was a easy sew. I used a linen mix, which I am not too crazy about, after I have washed the fabric it still felt a bit stiff, and it wrinkle like there is no tomorrow :( But I like the fit and the color.

I will add some extra width to the sleeves when I sew it again, I do feel that the sleeves around my lower arm is a bit too narrow. I will add a total of about 1/2″ to the side seam next time.

M4079 Long Sleeve Blouse

M4079This will be my first add on, to my new wardrobe. I have joined our sewing group on the forum where we will fit and sew one item per month. We feel it is better to sew one well fitted piece than 10 other pieces you can’t wear, due to fitting issues.

I have used a linen blend for this shirt. This will probably become one my favorite casual shirts, for movie nights.

The fabric is nice and cool, and it do not wrinkle as much as I thought it would.

I did tissue fit the pattern, and as always followed up with pin fitting for the final fine tuning of the fit. At first I though I would need some of my extra seam allowances but there was enough ease in the pattern that I did not need to add any extra.

I do believe that anyone who would like to sew for themselves will have success with this shirt.
