Vogue 2909 – The Beauty of A Polka Dot Shirt
When we started with this pattern (Vogue2909) we thought it’s going to be a quick fit and sew project. But this little top did give us a good lesson in patients and perseverance. The main lesson learned was to trust the measuring tape and go with the smaller size pattern, the other lesson was that not all full bustedladies need a Y-Full Bust Adjustment.
This little top turned out to be gorgeous, and it fits perfectly. I think she looks like a real lady wearing this top.
Some of her own words:
Patricia: “Your top look Beautiful. All the time and effort you have put into this top payed of I’m so proud of you, no matter how difficult this pattern tried to be . And we did had quite a few Moments. I love to look at the completed projects and then reflect back at where we started, what a great journey it was
Well done you did a GREAT job
”
Ssmith: “Thanks, Patricia. I certainly could never have done it without you. I love the fabric and the color most of all. I sent my daughter the same pictures, and she said the EXACT same thing you did about all the hard work paying off in the end. Here is what she said: “And your blouse fits great!!! All that hard work pays off – Plus, the fabric is super cute.” I think in the end, we had major SUCCESS! I am pleased with the outcome. “

Comment made on August 28th, 2010 at 10:33 amI like how you have been able to mix sophistication and cute into the same outfit. Looking at how the top fits is a joy and inspiration. The neckline does not gap; the straps are spaced just right; the armhole shape is flattering; the bust and hips have exactly enough ease without being over sized. I hope this pattern will become a favorite for you to sew many times.

Comment made on August 28th, 2010 at 7:06 pmI like the colour and the design. Not easy to fit a full bust, I know. Interesting to learn that we do not always need a Y-dart adjustment. I’m struggling with that problem right now. Result: What is eliminated by using a small size because of narrow shoulders and chest is added again through the full bust alteration and I end up with a vertical fold of fabric next to the armhole. Might be interesting to hear if you have or have had the same problem.
Comment made on August 29th, 2010 at 4:16 amWhen you looked at this fabric on the bolt in the fabric shop, you probably did not envision the elegant top that you would have after you worked your PS Majic on it! It looks beautiful and it is a top that you could wear on a family outing, to dinner and then to the dance on the cruise line as you leave the harbor for your cruise. (I have a great imagination and think you will look wonderful on a cruise!)
